Project Natal to Launch in October for $150

The rumor mill is churning pretty hard over Microsoft’s Project Natal. According to a new “trusted source” consulted by Edge Online, Microsoft’s sensor-based gaming add-on will have a sticker price of $150, putting it about in the middle of previous rumors. The new rumor also indicates a tentative October 26 launch for the system, which would put it right in that logical holiday launch window that Microsoft has already promised.

While the standalone Natal add-on package will run a buck and a half, Microsoft will also be selling a packaged version with an Arcade console for $300, which essentially breaks down to $100 for Natal.

Microsoft will get the final say at E3 next month. Until then, you better start asking yourself how much you’re willing to spend for motion-based gaming on Xbox.

Viaddress : What’s With All the Rollable Concepts and Gadgets? eRoll E-reader

Now that we know that ultra-thin, flexible OLEDs are coming, designers have really seemed to open the floodgates of imagination in coming up with devices to feature them. I’m officially declaring it National Flexi-Display Week 2010.

We’ve seen what Sony is working on and we’ve seen a wrist computer concept that Sony should be proud to put its name on. Now here’s an e-reader concept that gets even more thin and flexible. The eRoll designed by Dragan Trencevski features a thin, paperlike display that rolls in and out of a cylindrical carrying case. After all, the e-reader was designed to replace the magazine and newspaper, why shouldn’t it roll up like one?

I’m not sure why you’d go through all the trouble of having such a convenient, flexible display and then put it in a bulky hard case, but I love the look of the rollable e-reader. If and when they come out with these, I don’t see any reason why we need hard copies anymore.

Another Beer-Transporting Robot

Did you ever wonder how far along humanity could be if people focused less on products that make us more lazy? We’d probably be traveling around, counting light years instead of miles and conquering distant planets that we don’t even know exist.

But, being lazy is a lot more fun in the short term, so we get technology like Baxter the ButlerBot and RoboFridge. After a couple of MGDs, we’ll forget all about what could have been.

Despite looking like a rolling trash bin, Baxter is designed to do what even man’s best friend can’t (believe me I’ve tried): fetch you an ice cold beer from the refrigerator. The system solves an age old problem: while you could get a robot (or perhaps canine) to bring a beer to you, how do you get him inside the refrigerator? By making it a robotic refrigerator, of course! You can see it all go down in the video below.

And to all you would-be beer-fetching robot designers out there, I’ll save you some work: it’s called an ice-filled cooler next to the couch. Problem solved
